Ludwig van Beethoven Music School Bonn

Woodwind instruments

While the bow strung with horsehair makes the strings of string instruments sound, the player of a woodwind instrument produces the sound with his breath. They feed their breath into the instrument via a mouthpiece, causing the instrument itself and the air it contains to vibrate. The mouthpiece is either block-shaped or flat, or has the shape of a small tube.
