Ludwig van Beethoven Music School Bonn

Keyboard instruments

In contrast to melody instruments, keyboard instruments are also known as harmony instruments. Several voices can be played simultaneously on them and melodies can be underlaid with harmonies. This means that keyboard instruments offer almost unlimited possibilities, whether as soloists or when playing together with melody instruments. A piano can replace an entire symphony orchestra, and playing the basso continuo on the harpsichord supports the rhythmic and harmonic structure of many Baroque pieces of music.
